Response to Ireland’s Online Health Taskforce’s report
"We welcome this important report from Ireland’s Online Health Taskforce, which shines a light on the urgent need for international cooperation to protect children and young people from online harm.
“Childhood is being eroded by the digital world and children’s basic right to safety is not being upheld. Every child deserves the chance to thrive, both online and offline and their voices must be central to shaping the solutions. Those solutions must include offline opportunities and activities that engage children and offer healthy alternatives to the online world.
“Governments must keep pace with the rapidly evolving digital landscape and the risks it brings, acting now to prevent future harm.
“In Scotland, we are facing a national childhood emergency. Children are at risk of online harm at an ever-younger age and on an unprecedented scale. The Scottish Government must urgently unite a coalition of children’s services, education, child protection, health, justice, the third sector, and technology companies to fight for children’s safety and preserve childhood in this digital age. Children are telling us they need adults to keep them safe and they can’t wait.”
